Sharing Files On
Home Network is Easy On Windows XP.
In
fact, follow these simple instructions and I will have you
sharing files on home network s in just a few minutes.
Many times you want to share your pictures, music files,
word-processing documents, spreadsheets, etc. with your friends,
family or co-workers. With a network connection and a few
configurations, you can share contents of your computer with
anyone you wish too. How is this accomplished? Well, we'll
need to go do a little "exploring".
1. Open My Computer by clicking on Start, and clicking on
"My Computer" circled in red here.

You will see the window below.One
step closer to sharing files on your home network!

To be able to see your folders you
may have to click on the folder button located at the top
of the window.

On the left side, choose the hard
driver your folder exist on by clicking it.

2. Then locate the folder
you want to share on the right side, right click it, click
"Sharing and Security on the menu that will appear. It should
look like the figures below:

Note:
You may get a warning asking if you understand the risks involved
with sharing files on home network s. If you understand the
risk but still want to share the folder just click and continue.

Set your File Sharing Preferences.
- Place a check
mark (by clicking) on the option "Sharing this file on the
network" shown in the red circle in the figure below
- Give the shared
file a name in the white box provide.
- If you want
to give others on your home network the ability to change
any of the files in the shared folder, place a check mark
in "Allow network users to change my files" option. Note:
If you choose not to allow file sharing, network user will
only be able to open files in "read only" mode which simple
means they cannot change them.
Note:
If the check box is not available, this computer is not set
up for home networking. If you would like to set up a home
network, click the XP Networking and follow the procedures
there to setup your home net work. The Home networking setup
wizard will help you set up and enable sharing files on home
network (s) option. Once file sharing is enabled, return to
http://www.best-home-networking-solutions.com/sharing-files-on-home-network.html
and begin this procedure again.
4. Once you've completed
this and clicked OK or Apply, your folder should look like
the figure below. A folder with an open hand underneath it.
That's it!
You have enabled sharing files on home network and all users
can now see that folder when they click on network places.
